Submission Guidelines
General Guidelines
We do not accept AI-generated images or writing. We do not accept works of fanfiction/fanart or material that feature copyrighted material. We do not accept works promoting or glorifying: violence, sexual abuse, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or hatred. We may include a content warning on accepted works that feature graphic content.
Please let us know if your piece has been published elsewhere so we may include a note of that in our publication.
Creative Writing Guidelines
We accept creative writing in the form of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry.
Fiction:
All forms of fiction are accepted. Please submit your piece with a maximum length of 3,000 words. If you are submitting flash fiction (<1,000 words), you may submit up to 3 pieces. You may also submit a different combination of the two (ex. submitting a flash fiction piece that is 2,000 words with a piece that is 1,000 words).
Creative Nonfiction:
Personal essays, memoirs, and other forms of creative nonfiction are accepted. Please submit your piece with a maximum length of 3,000 words. If you are submitting flash nonfiction or micro-essays (<1,000 words), you may submit up to 3 pieces. You may also submit a different combination of the two (ex. submitting a flash nonfiction piece that is 2,000 words with a micro-essay that is 1,000 words).
Poetry:
All forms of poetry are accepted. You may submit up to 3 poems of any length (within reason).
Visual Art Guidelines
We accept submissions of visual art in the form of photography, digital art, printmaking, drawing, and painting. You may submit up to 3-pieces of visual art. Please include the title, medium, and description of your piece.
Formatting Guidelines
- Do not put your name on the piece itself; all work is blind-reviewed.
- Please include your title in your submission.
- For visual art submissions: in addition to your piece, please include an additional .docx with your title, medium, and description of your piece.
- Please include page numbers on submissions that are longer than one page.
- We accept submissions as Microsoft Word Documents (.docx) or as Google Docs, not PDFs.
- For visual art submissions: please submit your piece as a .png or .tiff file.
- We prefer common conventions:
- Black and white
- 12-point font (including titles)
- Times or Times New Roman
- Double-spaced (poetry submissions may be single-spaced)
- 1-inch at the top and bottom, and 1.25 inch at the left and right. One space after periods. There should be no extra returns after paragraphs unless you have a meaningful reason for the extra space (such as stylistic formatting for poetry).
Creative Writing
Please title your document with the category of your submission and the title of your piece (or a shortened version). For example, The Raven (Edgar Allen Poe) would be submitted as “Poetry_TheRaven” or “Poetry_Raven.”
Visual Art
Please title your work with ‘Visual Art,’ followed by the name of your piece. For example, “The Birth of Venus” (Sandro Botticelli) would be submitted as “VisualArt_BirthofVenus” or “VisualArt_Venus.” Your additional document should follow the same format with ‘Description’ following; for example, “VisualArt_BirthofVenusDescription” or “VisualArt_VenusDescription.”
